Cowboy Shootouts, Cobbler Auction, Liars Contest and more at Cowboy Symposium
Penny Maguire Editor
The 4th Annual Cowboy Symposium held in Camp Wood at the City Park was another huge success. Featuring everything from cowboy shootouts to amusing poetry, the event serves to re-enact an important part of our country’s history.
Sponsored each year by the AHMATA, plans are already underway for next year’s event which will take place in AHMATA’s new building.
This year’s show provided outdoor bar-b-que and chuck wagon cooking, comedy cowboy reenactment shootouts provided by “The Texas Guns” from Uvalde, a Liar’s Contest, Story Telling Contest and talent show.
Local artists shared renditions of cowboy history and the symposium featured national poetry award winner Linda Kirkpatrick of Leakey, Texas.
The Cowboy Symposium is a family event that helps to educate adults and children about an important part of their heritage. For more information about how you can be a part of next year’s show, contact Peggy Taylor with the AHMATA in Camp Wood.

The Texas Guns This Old West Comedy Reenactment group from Uvalde entertained children and adults at the Cowboy Symposium. They enjoy entertaining at festivals, special events, etc. and come on a volunteer basis. Call them 830-278-4058. (Center) James Ham has acted in films including Bad Girls, Good Ole Boys with Tommy Lee Jones and Streets of Laredo featuring James Garner.

If you want to work in movies, it should be no secret how you go about doing that. Creative jobs are necessary to an economy and to the heart and soul of a city. What good is successful commerce–capitalism–if it does not open opportunity for artistic glory? And so, on Saturday morning, April 14, 2007 at 10 a.m.- 2 p.m. the Film Society is offering an opportunity to learn what to expect from movie auditions and how to find them across the state of Texas. We’re bringing camera equipment so that participants can be in front of the camera and critique his or her own audition. Questions? E-mail shiloh@thetexasranch.net.
